I HOPE YOU DANCE | ANGELEE & KIDS | LOGAN, UT FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY
" Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance and when you get a choice to sit it out or dance... I hope you dance!"
My heart is filled with hope, love, compassion, and anxiety today as my beautiful client renews her journey with breast cancer yet again. On any other day Angelee works hard with a team of doctors and nurses in the Emergency Department to save lives. Today she is fighting for her own.
Angelee contacted me last week to ask if I could fit her in for a session with her and her beautiful children. She explained that her need was urgent because she was to start chemo within a week. My heart ached for her and her littles and I frantically checked my schedule to see where I could fit her in. We chose Monday - Yesterday - Just one day before she starts chemo.
Shes been here before... Angelee has described that she feels pretty humbled, dazed, mildy afraid, but prepared. She was diagnosed with breast cancer for the first time in December of 2013. She underwent a double mastectomy in January of 2014 and with her genetic history of BRCA she was advised to have her fallopian tubes removed as well. She was to start chemo in March of that year. But she didn't.
At that time Angelee had two beautiful little girls, Jerzee and Harmony, but she felt like there was a son in her future so she declined treatment and endured more testing. To her relief she tested BRCA negative and her actual tumor came back as 0.5 mm invasive ductile carcinoma so she didn't meet criteria for chemo. Her port was removed and she was advised by her doctors to do follow up labs every few months. Then in July something amazing happened. Angelee became pregnant with her precious little boy!
Angelee delivered her little boy Axel almost a year ago and she was dismissed to yearly check ups. Then three weeks ago, Angelee found a lump. It is in the same location as before. A recurrence.... Now she is required to endure chemo therapy. Her journey isn't over and she will battle cancer once again.
A life disrupted... Angelee is a single mom who works hard, loves her children, and is as beautiful inside as she is out. She was finishing her nursing prerequisites and was to begin the nursing program at Nightengales Nursing Program in May. I am praying for her everyday that she gets through this, that she can continue along the path she has chosen for herself. She is strong, smart, hopeful, and a fighter.
I asked Angelee if she had any requests for her photo session, or if there was anything that inspired her. She said that she loves the video "I Hope You Dance" by Leann Womack. So I watched the video for the first time and loved it. I asked my husband Rod to come along and video Angelee and her kids so we could give her something special. I hope she loves it as much as we do. And to Angelee... "when you get a choice to sit it out or dance. I hope you dance!"
